Program Overview

New York has implemented the NYSERDA Charge-Ready NY 2.0 Program to offset the costs of building charging stations for electric vehicles. Entities seeking to install Level 2 and/or Direct Current (DC) Fast Chargers can earn incentives that will offset some or all of the cost of installing these chargers. These incentives are available to all qualified participants in the state of New York. 

In addition to the NYSERDA 2.0 Charge-Ready Program, utility companies in New York may offer additional incentives for the installation of Level 2 and DC Fast Chargers. For more information, please visit your utility company’s program guide (pg. 2).

NYSERDA Incentives

Note: Charging stations installed in assigned parking spaces reserved for the exclusive use of an individual driver or reserved for fleet vehicles will only be eligible for $1,000 per port.

NYSERDA Bonus Incentives

Workplace and Multi-Unit Dwelling locations qualify for additional incentives of $4,000 (small locations) or $10,000 (large locations). To participate in these additional incentives, please reference the requirements linked below.

Alternative Fueling Infrastructure Tax Credit

(State EV Charging Incentive)

An income tax credit is available for 50% of the cost of alternative fueling infrastructure, up to $5,000. Qualifying infrastructure includes electric vehicle supply equipment and equipment to dispense fuel that is 85% or more natural gas, propane, or hydrogen. Unused credits may be carried over into future tax years. The credit expires on December 31, 2022. EVSE Infrastructure Rebate

(State EV Charging Incentive)

New York State has launched a $5 million electric vehicle charging station rebate program designed to promote installations at private and public venues. Officials stated office buildings, multi-family apartment buildings, theaters, malls, parks and retail locations are among the locales targeted for the stations.

Managed by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the new Charge Ready NY initiative provides a $4,000 rebate per charging port for employers, building owners, municipalities and non-profit organizations to install Level 2 charging stations. Level 2 stations provide up to 25 miles of electric range to cars for each hour they are charging.

Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) and Fueling Structure Rebates for Municipalities

(State EV Charging Incentive)

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Municipal ZEV Rebate Program offers rebates to cities, towns, villages, counties, and New York City boroughs for the purchase or lease of eligible ZEVs and the installation of eligible ZEV fueling infrastructure. To qualify, ZEVs must be purchased or leased on or after May 1, 2018, at a dealership within the state, and leases must be at least 36 months in length. ZEV fueling infrastructure must be installed primarily for public use. Maximum Rebate Amounts –ZEV Purchase or Lease:  $5,000 per vehicle (50 miles or greater electric range); $2,500 per vehicle (10 to 50 mile electric range), Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE): $250,000 per facility, Hydrogen Fueling Infrastructure: $250,000 per facility. A single municipality may receive up to 50% of the total available funds towards ZEVs and EVSE, and up to 75% of the total available funds for hydrogen fueling infrastructure. Workplace Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) Incentive

(State EV Charging Incentive)

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority is offering employers in the greater New York City region $8,000 rebate per dual-connector EVSE installed. Employees of organizations that receive the rebate are eligible for a $500 rebate toward the purchase or lease of a qualified PEV. For more information, see the Charge to Work NY website.

New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) Level 2 and Direct Current ConEdison PowerReady Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure Program provides business and municipal customers with installation and funding support for the installation of approved Level 2 or direct current (DC) fast EVSE. Non-Residential Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Program – Orange & Rockland Utilities (O&R)

The O&R POWERREADY EV Program (formerly known as “Make-Ready”) provides commercial customers with installation and funding support to install approved Level 2 or direct current fast charging (DCFC) stations. For details, and how to apply visit the O&R POWERREADY EV Program website.

Non-Residential Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Program – National Grid

(Utility/Private EV Charging Incentive)

National Grid’s EV Charging Station Program offers non-residential Upstate New York customers with installation and funding support to install approved Level 2 or direct current (DC) fast charger EVSE at businesses, multi-unit dwellings and workplaces. EVSE Infrastructure Funding – NYPA (New York Power Authority)

(Utility/Private EV Charging Incentive)

Through EVolve NY, NYPA (New York Power Authority) has committed up to $250 million through 2025 – and will partner with the private sector and other key stakeholders on initiatives that address key infrastructure and market gaps to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EV’s) throughout the state.

The initial phase of funding directs $40 million into three new initiatives through the end of 2019: Interstate Fast Chargers (DCFC), Airport Charging Hubs, EV Model Communities. For more visit the NY Power Authority.
